On May 19, dance students from all 7 Catholic secondary schools within the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) will join together in an all-day dance workshop.
An annual event, DanceWorks will take place at Cardinal Newman where students will be introduced to one of six dance styles, including: STOMP, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, DanceHall, and Afro-Fusion. Each student will be randomly assigned to one of the genres and will spend the morning learning a routine. Regardless of dance ability, the workshops focus less on technique and more on trying something new, boosting confidence, and having fun. At the end of the sessions, students will come together to share what they learned.
"The environment of DanceWorks is positive and conducive to learning; everyone feels comfortable making mistakes while they challenge themselves to learn something new, perhaps something outside of their comfort zone with the support of fellow HWCDSB dance students," says Andrea Ferroni, Chair of DanceWorks.
"It is a day where the students can feel joy while showcasing the freedom of artistic expression."
