International Students

To register your child in a Catholic elementary school, parents/guardians will need to provide the following:
• Birth Certificate
• Catholic Baptismal Certificate
• Proof of Residency (e.g. property tax bill, utility bill, bank statement)
• Proof of up-to-date immunization
• Proof of status in Canada (immigration papers), where applicable, and documentation confirming date of entry to Canada
• Health Information (e.g. allergies, health support services)
• Completion of an “Application for the Direction of School Support” and/or “Separate School Lease Form” to be received at the time of registration and submitted prior to the start of school
• Court Order re: Custody Provisions (if applicable)

Registering your child for Kindergarten is an important milestone. Our Kindergarten program recognizes the uniqueness of each child and supports learners to reach the fullness of their potential. The learning is rooted in faith and grounded in the understanding that every child is capable, competent, and loved by God.

To enrol in Junior Kindergarten, children must be four years old by December 31st of the school year in which they begin.

Elementary Registration
Whether your child is just beginning school or transferring from another school board, we are happy to help you register your child for a school within the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

Secondary Registration
The HWCDSB provides a wide range of course types, programs and learning opportunities to prepare students for success in secondary school and beyond. Secondary schools offer a variety of course types to meet the needs of all learners.

International Students
An International Fee-Paying Student is defined by the HWCDSB as any student who comes to Canada for the purpose of studying full-time and who is in possession of a valid Study Permit as issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. As per the Education Act, tuition fees are required for this type of admission.

VISA students JK-Grade 8 will be placed in a school based on their catchment. Secondary VISA students will be placed at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. VISA students are not eligible to receive school transportation.

French Immersion
The HWCDSB offers a French Immersion program at several of its elementary schools as well as a robust secondary French Immersion program at Cathedral High School.

Students enrolled in Kindergarten French immersion receive a minimum of 50% instruction in French on a daily basis. Students enrolled in Grades 1 through 8 receive 50% of instruction in French and 50% of instruction in English. Students at the secondary level complete a minimum of 10 courses delivered in French.
